October is the most important month of the year for the world of “real-life” escape games. Not only do we celebrate World Escape Room Day on the first of October, but it’s also the time when nominations open for the prestigious TERPECA ranking of the best escape room games in the world.
Often compared to the Oscars of the escape room industry, the TERPECA Award rewards outstanding achievements and highlights the most innovative and unforgettable escape room games. Passionate players play a crucial role in this process – nominating the games they love and voting to select the very best.
The first round of voting will take place in October. Each nominator can propose only 10 games that have impressed them the most, games with which they have no connection. This is confirmed by a signed statement for each nomination. Since nominators have often played hundreds or even thousands of games worldwide, this ensures that only truly exceptional games that have left the biggest impression are nominated.
In November, registered voters cast their votes to create the final ranking of the best escape room games globally. Escape room enthusiasts from around the world visit these top-ranked games – sometimes travelling as far as 5,000 km to play a single extraordinary escape room experience!
*We specifically say “we travel” instead of “they travel” because Slovenia has its own passionate enthusiasts and even two official nominators. Enigmarium’s own Nataša and Peter love spending their holidays playing escape room games, and they’re willing to drive for an hour and a half into the wilderness just to play a highly ranked game. They’ve even been locked in coffins and prisons and escaped from chainsaw-wielding maniacs! More on how to plan a holiday filled with escape room adventures in an upcoming article – but today, we need your vote!

At Enigmarium, we are over the moon that one of our games has been nominated every year so far. Last year, two of our games made the list, both inspired by our cultural heritage: the Werewolf (When the Full Moon Rises: Return of the Werewolf) and the Waterman (The Lost Submarine: Operation Waterman).
This year, we’re keeping our fingers crossed again, but we know Slovenia gets far fewer visitors than larger capitals. That’s why every vote or nomination means so much to us.
Thank you!
PS: Do you know someone who has played a lot of games? Give them a nudge to join us! If you’re just starting out, here’s a tip: we’ve created a handy little black notebook at Enigmarium where you can log all your played games, and we’ll be happy to stamp it for you with a fun little stamp.
