ER Champ has been taking place since 2017 in Poland under the auspices of the largest escape room selection and booking portal, Lock.me. When the championship moved online in 2020 due to the pandemic, it opened the door for teams from all over the world to participate. Now the competition takes place in two stages, with qualifications online and finals live.

Last year, 532 teams from countries such as Japan, the UK, France, Italy, the United States, Poland, Singapore, Taiwan, Canada, Germany, Slovakia and Switzerland participated in the online qualifiers. More than 20,000 people watched the live broadcast.

Important dates – online qualifications

The first phase of this year’s championship, online qualifications, will take place on 29 June starting at exactly 6:00 p.m.

Date of the final in Prague

The Grand Final will take place on 25 November in Prague, where the top 10 teams from around the world will compete live in a day-long event. They will have to play two 20-minute escape games created especially for this year’s competition. The fastest team will win the title of world champion.

The event will be hosted by the Fun Arena, where it will be possible to follow the competition live in a special fan zone (live streaming will also be available). After the competition there will be a party with industry representatives and leading companies, as well as escape room enthusiasts from around the world.

Story

This year, the players chose the story themselves through a vote. The selected story is called “TV Obsession” and tells of two TV lovers who “fall into” watching TV so much that they can’t get back to reality. In order to get back, we have to help them find all the remote control buttons that are scattered across different channels.

Good to know – important!

The qualifications start on 29 June 2024 at exactly 18:00 (CEST or our time in Slovenia). It’s important that you register individually in advance, create a team and play one of the games from the previous championships together, so that you are really ready at 18:00 on 29 June.

The time starts counting down exactly at 18:00 and not when you start playing!

It will be a matter of seconds here, because only the ten fastest (the time in which you finish the game) will advance to the grand final.

(Hint: It also helps if you play as many good escape rooms as possible beforehand – and Enigmarium has 19 of them! )

Did you know that the winning team of the first World Championship in Escape Room games eight years ago was from Slovenia?

The first competition of this kind took place in 2016 in Budapest, organized by Red Bull, and we Slovenians won! Subsequently, the Polish portal “Lock.Me” took over as the organizer, and the championship is becoming increasingly popular. This year, the organizers invited the biggest escape room enthusiasts from the United States, Japan, France, Sweden, Italy and Slovenia to participate.

Slovenian ambassador

The role of world championship ambassador for Slovenia was taken over by Nataša Potočnik, creator of gamified experiences from the popular Enigmarium. She is available to all the teams for any questions. She also visited the event last year in 2023. She wants to see as many Slovenian teams as possible in the competition (and even in the finals!), because she believes that the Slovenians could easily take home this prestigious title.
